The Washington Redskins may have made a change under center during their abysmal loss to the New York Giants, however, it appears head coach Jay Gruden still has yet to name a starter heading into Week 5.

Quarterback Dwayne Haskins made his career debut after quarterback Cae Keenum was benched. According to ESPN's John Keim, Gruden is not ready to name an official starter just yet:

Redskins coach Jay Gruden said he'll decide on a starting quarterback for Sunday's game vs. New England after gauging their health, starting Wednesday.

Gruden added that he is still holding out hope for quarterback Colt McCoy to potentially make his return.

“I know he hasn't played a lot, but it does help that when I call a play we've been running for five or six years that you know where to look and what side of the field to read as opposed to seeing it for the first time [in a game],” Gruden said.

Keenum started the first four games of the 2019 NFL season before he was benched during the second quarter for his poor play against the Giants. Unfortunately, their woes continued with Haskins under center after he threw three interceptions in his first taste of real NFL action.

As a result, Gruden is hoping McCoy can potentially act as his saving grace against the New England Patriots this week.

Although many presumed Washington was ready to usher in the Haskins era under center, it seems they do not feel as though he is ready to take control of the offense just yet. Having the rookie go against this formidable Patriots defense is hardly an ideal way for him to find his footing.

Regardless, it is safe to assume that any quarterback that starts this week will certainly have their work cut out versus New England.
