Washington Redskins wide receiver Josh Doctson won't be playing in his team's final preseason game, but coach Jay Gruden wouldn't go as far as saying as will be on the final 53-man roster.

On Tuesday, Gruden was asked what Doctson not playing meant in terms of his roster status, and all Gruden would say was it meant that he wouldn't be playing.

“It means he won’t play this week,” Gruden said, per Les Carpenter of The Washington Post. “I anticipate…We’ll see what happens. I’m not saying anybody’s making it or not making it right now. We still have another game and evaluations to make.”

There has been a lot of talk this preseason about how deep Washington's wide receiver group is this year, which means Doctson could be the odd man out.

Paul Richardson Jr. and Trey Quinn are locks to make the team and 2019 draft picks Terry McLaurin and Kelvin Harmon also seem to be sure bets. The team has also praised Cam Sims and Robert Davis, while undrafted rookie Steven Sims has returned kicks, potentially giving him a leg up on making the team.

If this is the end of Doctson in Washington this would be another first-round draft pick the Redskins have missed on. Doctson only played two games as a rookie. and the last two years hasn't surpassed the 550-yard receiving mark.

Maybe a fresh start is just what Doctson needs, and it seems that he might be only a few days away from one.
