The Washington Redskins managed to secure their potential franchise quarterback in Dwayne Haskins this offseason. It appears head coach Jay Gruden will give him an opportunity to make an immediate impact.

There has been plenty of speculation regarding Washington's quarterback situation. According to Charean Williams of Pro Football Talk, Gruden says Haskins will compete for the starting job this offseason:

“Yeah, for sure. We have to have that,” Gruden said. “I mean Case coming off of the most experience is great. Colt has the most experience with this terminology in this system, and Dwayne was the 15th pick in the draft. We’ll see what happens.”

Washington has undergone some major changes under center this offseason. With quarterbacks Alex Smith and Colt McCoy still recovering injury, the front office brought in former Denver Broncos quarterback to help shore up some stability. It seems Haskins will need to find a way to beat out Keenum for the starting spot leading up to the 2019 NFL season.

Although Gruden has opened the door for Haskins to compete, it is safe to say that Washington is not looking to rush him in before he is ready. Many have speculation that Keenum will likely serve as a bridge quarterback until the rookie is ready to take over. However long that may be is entirely up to how each player performs.

There is no question that Haskins would love nothing more than to be the starter come Week 1. Regardless, Washington seems to have a contingency plan installed just in case he needs more time to develop. It will be interesting to see which quarterback ultimately wins the job.
