As a legendary Washington Redskins quarterback, Joe Theismann knows a lot about what Dwayne Haskins is about to go through. The Redskins drafted Haskins in the first round back in April to be their quarterback of the future.

That doesn't mean anything is going to be handed to him, and he'll have to battle with Case Keenum to win the starting job. Appearing on a recent episode of the Rapsheet and Friends podcast with Ian Rapoport, Theismann offered the young Ohio State product some advice, per Jordan Dajani of 247Sports.

First off, Theismann offered an assessment of Haskins' game and what he's seen from him in practice so far.

“I watched him play a lot,” he said. “I went to the OTAs, I went to minicamp, watched him work quite a bit and the thing that I'm impressed with is his ability to be able to throw the football. He's got a strong arm, he can spin it, he's accurate, he's not the most mobile guy but he's certainly not a statue, and the thing that he does not have in his favor is experience.”

As Theismann points out, Haskins only had one year of starting experience at Ohio State. Theismann has been vocal in the past saying that the Redskins shouldn't throw Haskins out there right away if he isn't ready.

“What you see in the course of a game is different than what you'll see in practice or preseason, and I think he just has to continue to get comfortable with the system, and get acclimated to professional football,” Theismann continued. “We want him to be the star of this football team going forward. The question is, will he be able to comprehend enough in a very short period of time to be able to get the job done and become the starting quarterback?”

Haskins will have his work cut out for him, as Keenum isn't going to give up the starting job easily. That being said, Jay Gruden is reportedly on the hot seat, so he likely can't afford to wait too long before inserting Haskins.
