The New York Giants surprised a lot of people when they opted to take Duke's Daniel Jones instead of Ohio State's Dwayne Haskins as their quarterback of the future in 2019 NFL Draft.

Count former Giants safety Landon Collins among them.

Collins, now a teammate of Haskins' with the Washington Redskins, thought New York was going to nab Haskins at No. 6.

“Honestly, I thought the Giants were going to take him,” Collins said, according to Ryan Dunleavy of NJ Advance Media. “It slipped into our hands. I was like, ‘Wow, we got the best quarterback. We stole the best quarterback in the draft. Awesome.’”

Haskins grew up a Giants fan in New Jersey and badly wanted to play for Big Blue. When it was announced that New York had decided to take Jones, cameras caught Haskins laughing.

Will he have the last laugh? Collins seems to think so.

“Great guy, great quarterback, humble guy, down to earth, ready to ball,” Collins said of the incoming rookie. “Ready to tear up the Giants defense for the next five years and continue on from there. I think we’re going to go get one (a Super Bowl) — or a couple of them.”

There were some who felt that Haskins was actually the best quarterback prospect in the draft, even better than Oklahoma's Kyler Murray, who went No. 1 overall to the Arizona Cardinals.

If Haskins does end up being that great, or even just better than Jones, the Giants will regret their decision twice a year for a very long time.
