Landon Collins ended up signing a massive $84 million contract with the Washington Redskins this offseason, but the safety had originally hoped to remain with the New York Giants.

While Collins appreciates his new team, he never wanted to leave his first.

“I’m starting a new chapter and I’m on a good team,” Collins said, according to Ryan Dunleavy of NJ Advance Media. “When I left the Giants, I was kind of heartbroken. I loved the Giants. When I started there, I wanted to finish there. I wanted to be one of those guys to finish his career on one team. They didn’t give me the opportunity to do that. It’s a business. I can’t do anything about that.”

New York's decision to give essentially no attention to Collins this offseason was certainly an odd one, as the Giants didn't even attempt to place a franchise on the three-time Pro Bowler.

Not only that, but the Giants also threw Collins' name around in trade talks midway through the 2018 campaign.

“They never made an offer,” Collins said. “I knew when they were about to trade me how it was going to go. Very, very eye-opening.”

The 25-year-old is coming off of a season in which he registered 96 tackles, a forced fumble, and four passes defended.

Collins, who played his collegiate football at the University of Alabama, was originally selected by New York in the second round (33rd pick overall) of the 2015 NFL Draft.

Since then, Collins has gone on to stamp his name among the best defensive backs in football.
