The Washington Redskins have officially named Josh Johnson the starter for Week 15 after he replaced Mark Sanchez in Sunday's game against the New York Giants.

Johnson finished 11 of 16 for 195 yards and a touchdown while throwing just one interception in the 40-16 loss to the Giants, but he was clearly one of the highlights in what was a tough start for Sanchez.

After taking over for the injured Colt McCoy last week, Sanchez took the reigns and delivered a 6 for 14 effort that included only 38 yards passing to go along with two interceptions – one of which was turned for a touchdown.

That has prompted head coach Jay Gruden to turn to Johnson ahead of next week's game.

From Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk:

Sanchez was benched in the third quarter of Sunday’s loss to the Giants and replaced by Josh Johnson, who was playing in his first regular season game since 2013. Johnson ran for one score and threw another, which made the final score 40-16 and was enough for Washington coach Jay Gruden to name him next week’s starter.

It's simply been a rough season for Redskins quarterbacks after Alex Smith broke his leg several weeks ago.

With this loss to the Giants, the team's playoff hopes have taken a big hit, and it will take a huge effort the rest of the way to make the postseason.

Johnson and company will now prepare for next Sunday's game in Jacksonville against the struggling Jaguars, who also have their own quarterback issues at the moment.
