Former Carolina Panthers head coach Ron Rivera is now officially leading the struggling Washington Redskins. Not only that, but Rivera already has his top priorities in order with the main goal remaining to get veteran offensive lineman Trent Williams back on board in Washington — and quick.

“We’ve got to get Trent in,” Rivera recently told Larry Michael on Redskins Nation. “We’ve got to sit him down, see where he is, see how he is, health-wise, too. We have not really had the contact we need to have to know.”

However, this all may be easier said than done for the Redskins coach, who is still brand new on the scene in our nation's capital.

“At the end of the day, I’m a human being. I ain’t like a dog and you can slap the s— out of me and I’m going to come back the next morning with my tail wagging. This was a conscious decision; they didn’t burn the bridge by accident. This was something they felt comfortable doing, so I got to feel comfortable with moving on, too,” Williams infamously told The Washington Post back in December.

Nonetheless, it is clear that Rivera believes that he can turn things around in terms of the team's relationship with the veteran left tackle.

“He’s still our guy,” the Redskins coach added.

Of course, there is still a long offseason ahead but Rivera and his Redskins will have some serious work to do if Williams is ultimately going to return to the fold in Washington.
