There has been an ongoing discussion on whether or not the Washington Redskins should change their team name. Despite people lobbying for the franchise to alter the name, head coach Ron Rivera believes Washington's name change is a ‘discussion for another time'.

Since accepting the Redskins job in January, Rivera has somehow avoided being asked about the team's name. However, during an interview on 670 The Score's McNeil and Parkins Show, Rivera was finally asked the question.

Rivera would respond by saying that the Redskins' name was “always part of football” while he was growing up. Washington's new head coach also believes the ‘timing isn't right' for the organization to consider a name change.

In the past month, there have been ongoing protests due to the lives being taken in police custody. It has been long overdue for changes to be made and people are attempting to spark a much-needed conversation. At the same time, those same people are calling for changes to take place for other social issues.

Provided that, if now isn't the right time for Washington to consider a name change, then when is a good time? Without a doubt, Rivera is one of the most well-respected coaches and individuals in the NFL. Therefore, when he says something, people tend to listen to every word he utters.

The longtime head coach and former player has expressed his support in his players kneeling during the national anthem next season. While supporting his players during the Black Lives Matter movement, Rivera should also be open to discussing the team's name.
