The Washington Football Team made quite a splash by taking defensive end Chase Young with the second overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. It is safe to say that head coach Ron Rivera has high hopes for the rookie leading up to the 2020 NFL season.

Although there had initially been some speculation regarding their interest in taking a quarterback, Young's potential as a generational talent was too good for them to pass up on. Rivera shared some high praise for the new addition during an appearance on Good Morning Football:

“His energy (stood out), how hard he plays when he’s on the football field and how dynamic and athletic he is,” said Rivera. “I got an opportunity to see him come in yesterday. I was standing over by the testing site. We had a chance to speak and he has been everything that we hoped he would be so far as a young man. We can’t wait to get him on the football field to see what he looks like as a football player. We believe he’s going to be the type of guy that he was for Ohio State.”

Rivera wasted no time in making efforts to establish a strong locker room culture upon his arrival this offseason. His comments indicate that it was not only Young's talent on the field that made him the No. 2 pick, but his character off of it as well.

Washington is still in the midst of undergoing some significant changes and Rivera will be relying on Young to serve as an igniting factor for a potential resurgence in the 2020 campaign. While the restrictions of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic have offered up its own set of challenges for teams learning a new system, having the right foundational pieces should help to speed up the process.
