Could Adrian Peterson be in for one of his best seasons in recent memory?

According to head coach Ron Rivera, the answer is yes.  According to The Athletic's Rhiannon Walker, Rivera said that Peterson is “looking younger than ever”.

Following a 2019 campaign in which Peterson ran for 898 yards, the indication by Rivera that Peterson is looking younger than ever is a welcome sign for Redskins faithful.  With unproven quarterback Dwyane Haskins, who had his issues both on and off the field last season, fully taking the reins of the offense this season, the Redskins will need to lean on the running game a lot this season if they hope to have a chance at the playoffs in a weak NFC East.

Peterson hopes to not be alone to carry the burden this season. Derrius Guice, who has been plagued by injuries in both of his first two seasons with the Redskins, is looking to stay healthy and expand on his first season he played in, in which he ran for 245 yards in an injury-shortened season.

Peterson is heading into his 13th season in the NFL and his third with the Redskins.  After nine seasons with the Vikings from 2007 to 2016, it looked like Peterson's career was starting to come to a close following an injury-shortened 2016 season.  In that season Peterson only recorded 72 rushing yards in three games played, resulting in the Vikings choosing not to exercise their team option.

A tumultuous 2017 campaign did not bode well for his future, with Peterson only rushing for 529 yards between the Saints and Cardinals.  While not quite to the numbers he put up in his prime, Peterson has had a bit of a resurgence in Washington, with him passing the 1000-yard mark for the first time in three years in 2018 with 1042 yards.
