New Washington Redskins head coach Ron Rivera has played it very coy when it comes to discussing the team's quarterback situation, so much so that it had been previously speculated that the Redskins could take Tua Tagovailoa with the second overall pick in the NFL Draft next month.

Of course, Washington's trade for Kyle Allen probably squashed any chance that it could take Tagovailoa, but people are now wondering if Allen could potentially start over Dwayne Haskins.

Rivera finally provided some clarity this week, saying that the team is going into camp believing that Haskins is the starter:

“That’s what we’re going into camp believing, but they’re going to compete,” Rivera said on WFNZ, via Peter King of NBC Sports. “We really like what we have in terms of our young quarterbacks. Kyle a young guy who has a live arm, understands the game, understands how we do things, so I’m excited about what the potential could be.”

Rivera has refrained from committing to Haskins all offseason, and he pretty much did it again here.

While he essentially acknowledged that Haskins is the No. 1 guy right now, he also made it clear that there are no guarantees for the second-year signal-caller.

The Redskins took Haskins with the 15th overall pick last spring, but he did not look all that impressive in his nine appearances and seven starts in 2019.

It's also important to keep in mind that Rivera coached Allen in Carolina for most of this past season, a season in which Allen made 12 starts.
