The Washington Redskins have been ravaged by injuries for pretty much the entire 2017 NFL season thus far. Although they have managed to stay competitive, the IR continues to grow in Washington as the Redskins enter perhaps their biggest four-game stretch of the year.
The most recent casualty is starting running back Rob Kelley, who suffering a high ankle sprain and an MCL sprain during Sunday's 30-38 loss against a formidable Minnesota Vikings team. As a result, Washington held tryouts for possible replacements in running backs Ronnie Hillman and Daryl Richardson, according to ESPN's Field Yates:
Prior to his injury, Washington was already a team that utilized a committee of running backs, with Kelley largely serving as the team's first and second down back. That said, neither of these players fit that type of mold. Rather, they possess a skill set closer to that of the versatile Chris Thompson. However, Thompson has proven to be their most productive weapon in the backfield even before Kelley's injury.
Ronnie Hillman put up some solid numbers during his four-year tenure with the Denver Broncos. His best season came in 2015 where he recorded 974 yards from scrimmage and eight total touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Daryl Richardson has gotten little work ever since he was taken by the St. Louis Rams with the second to last overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft. Prior to being released by the Indianapolis Colts practice squad in September, his last league action came in the 2016 NFL season where he registered just seven yards on two carries.
