Dwayne Haskins is one of the most exciting rookies to watch out for in the 2019 NFL Draft. He is a supremely talented passer the Washington Redskins will count on for years to come.

However, there isn't pressure on the Ohio State product to contribute right away. The team is reportedly taking the low-and-slow approach with their future franchise QB.

Via Les Carpenter in the Washington Post:

“He’s a young player, obviously, just learning the system for the first time,” coach Jay Gruden said of Haskins. “As far as Dwayne is concerned, you just have got to continue to work and get these reps — mental reps, physical reps and just continue to build on his performance day after day.”

While they accept that Haskins is still far from being a regular NFL starter, they like what they are seeing from the 2018 Heisman Trophy finalist. They hope to see him blossom into a leadership role as he develops his game:

“He’s such an even-keel guy and I think that’s going to bode well for him in his career, being steady, never too high, never being too low,” [offensive coordinator Kevin] O’Connell said. “Sometimes you want to push him to show some emotion. [You want him] to show some of those young guys in the huddle with him that it’s okay for you to lead that group. It’s okay for you to lead by example.”

There's still a long road ahead for Haskins, but things are looking up for him. He threw for an incredible 4,831 passing yards in a respected Ohio State program, so there's a lot of hype that his college numbers will translate well into the pros.

It's a good thing that they are letting Haskins take his time and absorb everything the league has to offer. With the time given to him, there are high hopes of him becoming the general that will lead them to glory.
