Adrian Peterson has revitalized his career in the nation's capital, and the Washington Redskins are likely to bring him back for another season as a result.

According to John Keim of ESPN.com, the Redskins will probably pick up the second year of Peterson's contract, although there is no guarantee that they do.

Peterson's cap hit would be $3.1 million, and if Washington opts to let him go, it would save $2.4 million.

Given the lack of stability the Redskins have at the running back position, whether it's Derrius Guice's shaky health or Chris Thompson's impending free agency, logic dictates that Peterson will probably be back with the club in 2020.

While Washington would love to free up some money to add some more talent around Dwayne Haskins, bringing Peterson back would hardly be the worst thing in the world and would probably benefit Haskins.

This past season, Peterson rushed for 898 yards and five touchdowns while averaging 4.3 yards per carry, giving him his most efficient campaign since 2015 when he logged 4.5 yards per attempt with the Minnesota Vikings.

Peterson initially joined the Redskins on a one-year prove-it deal in August 2018 and delivered, finishing with 1,042 yards and seven scores while recording 4.2 yards per tote.

In the two seasons prior to linking up with Washington, Peterson looked cooked, as a knee injury knocked him out after just three games with the Vikings in 2016, and in 2017, he spent time with both the New Orleans Saints and Arizona Cardinals and amassed a grand total of 529 yards in 10 games.

Following his successful 2018 campaign, the Redskins signed the 34-year-old to a two-year extension.
