The Washington Redskins running back room just got a bit more explosive. On Wednesday, the team officially removed Derrius Guice from their injured reserve, per Field Yates of ESPN. In doing so, they activated him to the 53-man roster. He is eligible to play when the team returns to action after their Week 10 bye.

On Tuesday, Washington cleared a spot on the roster for Guice by released rookie tailback Craig Reynolds. With the return of the back, Washington now possesses five running backs on their 53-man roster.

Guice missed his entire rookie season after tearing his ACL in the preseason. Washington fans were clamoring to see what he could do in 2019, until, after carrying the rock 10 times for 18 yards in Week 1, he was placed on the injured reserve again for a knee injury. He recently returned to practice.

Coming out of LSU in 2018, Guice was viewed as his draft class' second-best running back after Saquon Barkley, who went at No. 2 overall. However, he was not drafted as so; Barkley went high, Georgia's duo of Sony Michel and Nick Chubb followed, then came USC's Ronald Jones II and Auburn's Kerryon Johnson before Washington took Guice at No. 59.

Despite falling out of the first round completely, Guice was viewed as a potential workhorse back for Washington. At LSU, he played the part of an explosive runner that will run through defenders or around them if he chooses to do so. In three years at Baton Rouge, Guice ran for 3,074 yards and 29 touchdowns on 471 attempts.
