The Washington Redskins are adding another name into the mix at linebacker apparently. According to Ian Rapoport on Twitter, they've brought in undrafted free agent Gary Johnson out of Texas University.

Gary Johnson is definitely an intriguing name. As Rapoport mentions in the tweet, Johnson's fast – especially for the position. He used that to his advantage in College. Last season, the linebacker racked up 90 tackles with a ridiculous 16.5 tackles for loss and another 6.5 sacks.

If we're being honest here, the Redskins are pretty loaded at linebacker. They could use some depth maybe, but Johnson's going to have a tough time making the roster barring injuries. Especially when you consider he's coming into this so late.

Washington could be hoping to practice squad him though as he's definitely a player that could be a really fun project.

Right now, the Redskins have Montez Sweat and Ryan Kerrigan on the outside. Kerrigan is one of the most underrated players in football and a truly fantastic pass rusher. Sweat is a rookie with all the tools to be a superstar. With that in mind, it's obvious there isn't really a spot for Johnson to fit in. Yes, the depth is much less proven than Kerrigan and has a lot less potential than Sweat, but they've all done something to warrant their roles.

The inside is much less star-studded but there's plenty of potential there. Washington will likely want to give Cole Holcomb a nice long look as he has the tools to be a solid player.

Gary Johnson's got a chance to prove himself though and it will be interesting to see what he can do. The Washington Redskins might not have a spot for him at the moment, but anything can happen. We'll have to monitor him closely to see what he makes of this opportunity.
