Washington Redskins superstar left tackle Trent Williams has not played for the team since 2018.

He sat out the entire 2019 season. However, he said it wasn't about a contract. Williams did not trust GM Bruce Allen and had issues with the organization. In fact, it got to the point that the tackle said he would not play for the team again.

Things changed, though. After the season, the Redskins fired Bruce Allen. Then they hired Ron Rivera to be their new coach.

With that, things seemed to open up a bit.  Suddenly, Williams wasn't as opposed to the Redskins. He was open to talking. And apparently, those talks went at least okay because he was considering returning.

Now it looks like he is willing to return to the Redskins. However, he wants to do it with a new contract. If that new contract doesn't come, Williams wants a trade.

According to Chris Roling of Redskinswire.com, the Redskins still won't budge in the contract situation.

This could potentially turn ugly. There are points on both sides.

Washington might not want to give big money and a long contract to a left tackle that will be 32 by next season. He also hasn't played in more than 14 games since 2014.

However, Williams is at that time where he could probably get one last massive contract. And he should absolutely go after it. It might also upset him if the Redskins don't work towards that dealing, seeing as how they are loaded with cash to spend right now.

So it could be seen as a sign of disrespect to Williams that he isn't getting a chunk of that money. He's been one of the best offensive linemen in football, basically since he entered the league. Therefore, you could see why he wants a big contract.

This situation is likely to lead to plenty of headlines in the future. Either way, something will come out of it.

It could be a new contract, a trade, a holdout, or any number of other options. For now, we need to wait for more to develop.
