Washington Redskins running back Adrian Peterson suffered what he believed to be a dislocated shoulder in their Monday night defeat to the New Orleans Saints.

However, the former NFL MVP is not likely to miss any time due to what has been diagnosed as a strained shoulder after he underwent an MRI on Tuesday, per Tom Pelissero of NFL Network:

Redskins RB Adrian Peterson has a strained shoulder and will get a second opinion, but it’s not expected to keep him from playing, source said. Tough dude.

Peterson said he suffered the injury late in the first half against the Saints after he got hit in a catch-and-run play. He then played just a couple of snaps in the second half, and finished the game with four carries for six yards to go with two catches for 36 yards.

Peterson later said after the game that the injury was “not going to keep me out.” As it turns out, he was right.

Peterson is now set to play in the Redskins’ next game on Week 6 against the Carolina Panthers. Chris Thompson and Kapri Bibbs, who played out the rest of the Saints game at running back for the Redskins, will return to back Peterson up.

The Redskins should be relieved that their star running back is set to play. It’s clear in their wins and losses this season that Peterson is a key part of their offense. Hopefully, Peterson’s shoulder doesn’t affect him too much and that he can bounce back after his quiet night in New Orleans.
