Quarterback Marcus Mariota is set this to become an unrestricted free agent this offseason. According to John Breech of CBS Sports, Mariota is an option for the Washington Redskins.

If Ron Rivera has made one thing clear during his first two months as coach of the Redskins, it’s that he’s not completely sold on Dwayne Haskins as his quarterback. Not only has Rivera been non-committal about making Haskins his starter for 2020. But he’s even mentioned the possibility of bringing in competition. Although it seems highly unlikely that the Redskins would draft a quarterback in the first round for the second consecutive year — and I don’t think owner Dan Snyder would let them due to his close ties to Haskins — it wouldn’t be surprising at all to see Rivera bring in a veteran, which is where Mariota comes in.

In the 2019 NFL Draft, the Redskins selected quarterback Dwayne Haskins with their No. 15 overall pick. However, he struggled with injuries and only played in nine games last season. The 22-year-old completed 58 percent of his passes for 1,365 yards and seven touchdowns in his rookie year.

Nevertheless, signing Mariota can be a perfect option for the Redskins who are seeking to turn their franchise around. Mariota and Haskins could also challenge each other at training camp for the starting quarterback role.

This past season with the Tennessee Titans, Mariota was demoted to the backup quarterback position in favor of Ryan Tannehill. In seven games last season, Mariota ended up recording 1,203 yards with a career-low 59.4 completion percentage.
