The Washington Redskins released former Dallas Cowboys cornerback Orlando Scandrick on Tuesday five months after signing him. And now, they could potentially be planning to replace him with another veteran corner cut by an NFC East rival.

According to JP Finlay of NBC Sports Washington, the Redskins reached out to former Giants corner Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie last week.

The Redskins did take a good look at Rodgers-Cromartie in March after he was cut by the Giants. The 32-year-old spent the past four years in New York, playing 61 games (45 starts) with 193 tackles and 11 interceptions. But the Redskins eventually decided instead to sign Scandrick, who was released the following week by Dallas.

Per Finlay, Scandrick didn’t fit with the Redskins defense — both players and coaches — which likely factored into his relatively quick release. Perhaps DRC could prove to be a better fit if he does make his way to the DMV.

The Redskins could use another veteran on their secondary, which is fairly young outside of Josh Norman. Quinton Dunbar, who will likely start opposite Norman on the outside, is 26 and slot corner Fabian Moreau is 24.

Meanwhile, rookies Greg Stroman, Ranthony Texada, Danny Johnson, and Adonis Alexander, whom the team picked up in the supplemental draft, will all likely play a big role this season.
