The Washington Redskins own the second overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. While they are expected to take Ohio State EDGE rusher Chase Young, it is possible the Redskins could throw teams for a loop by selecting Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa.

Safid Deen of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reported newly-appointed head coach Ron Rivera met with Tagovailoa at the NFL scouting combine in Indianapolis, with Rivera telling Tua they want him to push current quarterback Dwayne Haskins for the starting job:

New coach Ron Rivera told Tagovailoa he wants to bring him to Washington to compete with second-year quarterback Dwayne Haskins during their meeting at the NFL combine, a source told the South Florida Sun Sentinel.

Deen also reported there are those within the Redskins organization who feel Haskins is not the quarterback of the future in Washington. Naturally, this would make selecting a quarterback that much more imperative this April.

For his part, Tagovailoa is still one of the top prospects in this year's class. There are questions with regard to how he will respond to a devastating hip injury suffered last fall, but he had been considered the presumptive No. 1 overall pick entering the 2019 campaign.

Tagovailoa completed over 71 percent of his passes for 2,840 yards and 33 touchdowns (against just three interceptions) prior to the injury last season. He still has plenty special arm talent, which makes him an attractive target for a number of teams in search of a new signal caller.

Haskins went 2-5 in seven starts for the Redskins, completing under 59 percent of his passes and averaging just 6.7 yards gained per pass attempt.

This might be the first real indication the Redskins are considering other options besides Young. Alternatively, it could merely be a smoke screen on Rivera's part. In any case, there are some doubts about Haskin's future in Washington.
