Washington Redskins running back Adrian Peterson is the latest athlete to respond to Drew Brees' controversial comments about kneeling during the national anthem.

Peterson was asked a question about Brees' stance on Friday, via Mark Berman of FOX 26:

“I know Drew Brees. He's not a racist at all and I have a lot of love for him, but I think this was a situation where he should have thought it out more.”

Peterson went on to echo the same sentiments of many other black athletes pertaining to Brees' comments on his grandfather fighting for the country. Peterson said that he had family members that previously fought for the country as well, but when they returned home, they didn't have a right to vote. Peterson then reiterated his previous point when it came to Brees:

“I love Drew, and I have nothing but respect for him, but I think he should have thought about that a little longer.”

During an interview with Yahoo Finance earlier this week, Brees said that he does not agree with anybody who “disrespected the flag.” Back in 2016, Brees made a similar statement when then-San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick made the decision to kneel during the national anthem to protest police brutality. Brees took no issue with Kaepernick's stand against social injustice, but did not agree with Kaepernick's method of expressing it.

Brees has received backlash from many athletes, ranging from LeBron James to his own New Orleans Saints teammates. Wide receiver Michael Thomas was particularly angry with Brees, but Thomas forgave Brees after the signal-caller apologized. Now the Redskins' star, Peterson, is yet another to express disappointment with Brees.
