Washington Redskins wide receiver Josh Doctson has been placed in concussion protocol following Sunday's 40-16 loss to the New York Giants.

Doctson finished the game with four receptions on five targets for 84 yards, which was one of the few bright spots in what was a brutal defeat for the Redskins.

But with Jay Gruden's team already dealing with numerous injuries, it now seems like Doctson's availability for Week 15 is now unknown as well.

From ESPN's Redskins reporter John Keim:

Washington Redskins wide receiver Josh Doctson has been placed in concussion protocol following Sunday's game against the New York Giants.

Doctson has 39 receptions for 469 yards and two touchdowns in his third season in the NFL, but he hasn't been able to put together any breakthrough performances.

Of course, one potential reason why is due to Washington's struggles at quarterback. With Alex Smith and Colt McCoy both out for the season, the Redskins turned to Mark Sanchez under center before he was benched for Josh Johnson in the game against the Giants.

And now, with tight end Jordan Reed also reportedly dealing with what could be a season-ending injury, it puts Doctson and company in a tough spot as they try to return to the playoffs.

Washington is 6-7 on the season, but after Sunday's performance, its postseason hopes appear to be slim at this point.

The Redskins will try to turn things around this week when they travel to Jacksonville this weekend for a showdown with the struggling Jaguars.
