On Monday afternoon, the Detroit Pistons announced that they've parted ways with Stan Van Gundy after four seasons. Van Gundy took a lot of heat after trading for forward Blake Griffin, giving up Tobias Harris, Avery Bradley, and an unprotected first round pick. Per Vince Ellis of the Detroit Free Press:

“We have decided that this change is necessary to take our basketball organization to the next level,” Pistons owner Tom Gores said in a released statement via the Detroit Free Press. “This was a very difficult decision and we did not come to it lightly. I am grateful to Stan for everything he’s done for the Pistons and for the City of Detroit. He rebuilt the culture of our basketball team, re-instilled a winning attitude and work ethic, and took us to the playoffs two years ago. He went all-in from day one to positively impact this franchise and this community.

“But over the past two seasons our team has not progressed, and we decided that a change is necessary to regain our momentum.”

With a change like this comes a lot of rumors about who the Pistons will look to lead their front office next. According to Bulls reporter Vincent Goodwill, one of the guys that could be in line for a front office role is former Chicago Bulls guard BJ Amstrong, who is currently Derrick Rose's agent.

After a successful NBA career winning three NBA Championships, Amstrong moved into a front office role as a special assistant to Vice President of Basketball Operations Jerry Krause until Krause was fired. After Krause was let go he was a scout for the Bulls for a few years before becoming an agent. Since 2006 he has been with Wasserman, currently serving as Executive Vice President & Managing Executive, Basketball.
