Brad Turner of the LA Times reports that the Lakers are nearing a deal for Shaw to become Luke Walton's lead assistant coach.

Shaw had previously served as an assistant coach for Los Angeles from 2005 until 2011. He won two rings as an assistant under head coach Phil Jackson. New Lakers head coach Walton played under Shaw during his tenure in Los Angeles.

Shaw's roots with the Lakers is deep. He played for the team from 1999 until 2003 and won three championships while playing alongside Shaquille O'Neal and Kobe Bryant.
