In not so shocking news, Dwane Casey would have been fired had the Toronto Raptors lost their first round playoff series.

While the Raptors are currently in the midst of an Eastern Conference Finals battle with the Cleveland Cavaliers, reports have surfaced that the Raptors would have canned Casey had they lost in the first round for the third consecutive season. According to Zach Lowe of ESPN, Casey was within a loss of being fired in his fifth season on the job.

For those that don't remember, the Raptors were on the verge of elimination after engaging in a seven-game series with the seventh seeded Indiana Pacers. Despite entering the first-round matchup as heavy favorites, Toronto struggled to put away a team with a stagnant offense that relies largely on the talents of one player, Paul George.

The Raptors were also swept in the first round by the Washington Wizards last season despite having home-court advantage. They were also eliminated in the 2014 playoffs by the Brooklyn Nets with home-court advantage.

Despite his failures as a head coach over recent seasons, casey has led the Raptors to their first conference finals appearance in franchise history. Furthermore, the team handed the Cavaliers their first two losses of the postseason over the past several days.

While Casey may have been on the hot seat less than a month ago, that is no longer the case with the Raptors two wins away from an NBA Finals appearance.
