One of the few bright spots for the Green Bay Packers‘ offense has been the running of Eddie Lacy. Unfortunately, he just can't stay on the field.

Lacy has regularly been pulled off the field every few plays to receive treatment on a nagging ankle injury. It's previously been reported as a sprain, but it appears to be worse.

According to the NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, Lacy is expected to miss “several weeks” with an unspecified ankle injury that goes beyond a sprain. Not giving up hope, Rapoport also notes that the Packers and Lacy are seeking a second opinion from Dr. Robert Anderson in North Carolina. Regardless, Rapoport stands by the initial report that Lacy will be out for a number of games.

This makes the timing of the trade for the ChiefsKnile Davis very understandable. The swift running back has struggled to block, but he certainly adds a dynamic presence to Green Bay's backfield. Fellow running back James Starks is out four weeks after undergoing surgery on his knee.

The Packers have been creative with their formations in the past, using both Randall Cobb and Ty Montgomery in the backfield in different situations. They might have to do more of this with both Lacy and Starks on the shelf, and Davis quickly attempting to learn the offense.
