Utah Jazz star Gordon Hayward is slated to make his season debut on Sunday against the New York Knicks, according to ESPN' Tim MacMahon.

He has been out since he dislocated and broke his right ring finger on Oct. 7. during the preseason. His original timetable was six weeks, making this a very pleasant surprise for Jazz faithful.

The 6-foot-8 small forward had been ramping up on-court activities, and everything from his shooting to ball-handling was very responsive, hence him getting the nod to play.

Hayward led the team in scoring with 19.7 points per game last season. His scoring punch will be much-needed, as the Jazz (3-3) look to get off to a favorable start of the season.

The Jazz are far from being at full strength, as shooting guard Alec Burks recently had a successful arthroscopic procedure on Tuesday to debride his left ankle and will remain out indefinitely. Boris Diaw suffered a right leg contusion and is likely out for two weeks and power forward Derrick Favors is still on a minutes restriction and getting in-form as the season progresses.
