During the preseason, Jacksonville Jaguars rookie running back Leonard Fournette said the National Football League was a bit slower — in terms of game-speed — than he expected. A few weeks into his first real season in the pros, and it appears the game caught up to him fast.

Leonard Fournette is not expected to play today against the Colts, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.

ESPN has since reported that he will not play.

For those unaware, the dynamic rookie has been dealing with an ankle injury. While he has been going around saying he could probably play through it if need be, the team would rather take the cautious approach instead of pushing him too hard this early in his career.

It also makes sense to not rush him on the field, as the Jaguars will have their bye week after their game this weekend. In turn, it would basically provide the running back with two weeks off in a row, helping him be as healthy as possible for a second-half of the season push.

With Fournette out, Chris Ivory should get a lot of carries, and Corey Grant, who has shown promise in limited playing time, may also see more work.

For those who live under a rock, Grant is a sneak good player in Madden 2018. His speed is set at a 96 and that is all that really matters in that video game.

Anyway, random asides to the side, the Jaguars face the Indianapolis Colts today. That is another franchise known for dealing with injuries to its stars.
