One of the best free agents on the open market this summer is undoubtedly Chris Paul. This superstar point guard will reportedly meet with various teams this offseason, but the Knicks won't be one of them.

New York's roster has one of Paul's best friends in superstar forward Carmelo Anthony. According to Yahoo's Adrian Wojnarowski, Chris Paul could have ended up as Knick this summer. Team president, Phil Jackson could have tried to lure Paul to the Big Apple based on the size of the franchise and that Anthony-Paul friendship.

Paul agreed to go to Los Angeles originally because he was looking for a big city and a bigger market than his original team, New Orleans. Based on that, New York would also be a viable option for Paul.

However, with how Jackson has treated Melo the last couple of years, New York lost all hope to sign the future Hall-of-Famer. The Knicks are now in a tricky position with Jackson openly asking Anthony to leave New York and waive his no-trade clause. With Carmelo and CP3, along with the 8th selection in this draft and future star Kristaps Porzingis, the Knicks could have contended in the East, but that possibility just didn't pan out.

Right now, the Knicks have put Porzingis on the trade block, and Anthony has been shopped since his exit interview.

Along with that, bad contracts signed, most notably with Joakim Noah, reduced the potential for more superstars to come to the Big Apple given their limited cap space.

The Knicks are about to enter an uncertain summer. Almost all of their players are available for trades, and their salary cap is a serious problem.

Phil Jackson is known as the “Zen-Master”, but it is, arguably, his actions that have led the Knicks to such disarray. It is hard to project what exactly will happen to the Knicks this summer.
