The NBA will now allow its players to wear their sneakers without any color restrictions.

As reported by Nick DePaula of ESPN, the league has lifted its sneaker color restrictions, allowing the players to wear whatever colorway they want at any point in the upcoming season.

The move is seen as an effort to give the athletes more freedom to express themselves. Also, from a business standpoint, the league might be taking advantage of the ongoing sneaker boom all over the world.

Though the league will loosen its rules, the report added a restriction on third-party logos will still take place. These include movie artworks, podcast logos, charity logos, and the like — all of which will be subject to the approval of the league office.

Though the entire league lifted the colorway restrictions, the teams themselves can still have their own policies.

Over the past few years, the league has ramped up changes with regard to the players’ jerseys. Nike, which took over the league’s official uniforms, declared that the teams will no longer have default home and away jerseys. There were also numerous alternate jerseys created. And subsequent to the swap in jerseys was the emergence of different shoe colorways.
