The Houston Rockets announced today that they signed guard James Harden to a huge extension. That contract will guarantee the All-Star guard $228 million in the next six seasons, making that the biggest contract extension signed in NBA history.

However, now that they have Harden locked up and they have guard Chris Paul, who they got in trade earlier in the off-season, the Rockets are now turning their attention to New York.

Per Adrian Wojnarowski and Brian Windhorst from ESPN, the Rockets are turning their full attention to bring forward Carmelo Anthony to the Rockets. Earlier reports from New York stated that the Knicks are open to trading the All-Star in a deal that will benefit both sides.

Due to the salary cap situation of Houston, the most probable packages will either include guard Eric Gordon or forward Ryan Anderson. Due to the specifics of their roster, Gordon will most probably not leave the team, and the Rockets will try to trade Anderson and his $61.2 million contract in return for Anthony.

Melo, although not the player he was in Denver, is still a great offensive threat. The small forward averaged 22.4 points and 5.9 rebounds per game. However, it has to be taken into consideration that the whole atmosphere around the organization and Anthony was pretty toxic.

Even though it was toxic and former team president Phil Jackson publicly urged Anthony to waive his no-trade clause, Anthony still put up great numbers. In addition to that, he is good friends with Paul and chemistry on the court should not be an issue, should a trade for Carmelo really happen.
