The Phoenix Suns are in a state of flux at one of the worst possible times. After firing general manager Ryan McDonough mere days before the start of the season, the organization is now parting ways with their assistant general manager, Pat Connelly and director of scouting, Courtney Witte.

Mike Scotto of The Athletic points out that this regime is responsible for drafting Alex Len, T.J. Warren, Devin Booker, Dragan Bender, Josh Jackson and Deandre Ayton. Out of those six draft picks, Booker is the only player that is a resounding success. The jury is still out on Josh Jackson and it's obviously way too early to make any declarations about Deandre Ayton. However,  Bender, Warren and Len look like busts at this point.

Clearly, the Suns were not happy with McDonough and his staff's track record in the draft. The Suns have missed on way too many draft picks in recent years and that's the easiest way to ensure your team never pulls itself out of the cellar.

Now, the Suns need to regroup and they need to do it fast. They open the season on Wednesday Oct. 17 against the Dallas Mavericks. Vice president of basketball operations James Jones and assistant general manager Trevor Bukstein are taking over the general manager duties on an interim basis.
