The NFL has imposed a $350,000 fine on the Tennessee Titans for violation of COVID-19 protocols, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL.com and NFL Network. If there are more violations in the future, “there will be escalated discipline.”

This hefty penalty comes after the league concluded its review of how Tennessee handled its recent outbreak.  The Titans were the first team to have a major COVID-19 outbreak in the league, and they reportedly committed several COVID-19 protocol violations amidst the outbreak. This prompted the NFL to conduct an investigation.

Some of their infractions reportedly included failure to comply with proper mask wearing and unclear team communication on working out outside of the practice facility. While their facility was closed, a number of Titans players worked out at another location.

Nonetheless, despite the large sum of money, the Titans must be relieved with this punishment. The league could impose more severe penalties, such as forfeiture of games and loss of draft picks. With that, Tennessee won't take a hit in the win-loss column and will not lose future team assets. Furthermore, no individual will face any kind of punishment, including general manager Jon Robinson and head coach Mike Vrabel.

Nonetheless, Tennessee reportedly fully complied with the investigation by the NFL, disclosing documents and video footage that could help with the review, and cooperating in interviews.

According to Rapoport, the Oakland Raiders could be next in line for a similar hefty fine.

With a total of 24 individuals within the Titans organization testing positive for COVID-19, this caused a major interruption on their schedule. Nonetheless, despite being the most coronavirus-stricken team in the league, the Titans are still undefeated on the season with a 5-0 mark.

With the conclusion of this investigation and the penalty officially being handed down, perhaps Tennessee can finally put its full focus on football.
