Previously, Leon appeared in multiple games and adaptations across the years. Claire Redfield had fewer appearances but they will be front and center for Infinite Darkness. The return of the voice actors to the franchise reinforces the upcoming series as a canonical adaptation. Fictional characters oftentimes change actors and voices across different media but the retention of a known voice will help fans enjoy it all the more.

Things continue to look bright for the Resident Evil franchise beyond the upcoming animated series. Netflix is also currently working on a live-action series adaptation of Resident Evil and a separate origin movie project. Previously, filmmakers produced a six-film movie franchise loosely based on the Resident Evil games across 15 years. Now, we'll finally get another live-action look at the RE world with the first movie reboot set for a 2021 release. Likewise, Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness will also premiere sometime in 2021.
