The Dallas Mavericks may now be heading in the right direction, winning their last two games after losing five straight to start the season. But, even with their recent run of success, they got hit by the injury bug last Friday. Starting point guard, Deron Willliams suffered a calf strain and is expected to miss at least their next two games.

Already missing the services of Devin Harris, D-Will's injury leaves the Mavs with J.J. Barea as the only natural point guard on the roster, although Seth Curry can also fill in the position.

But, head coach Rick Carlisle doesn't seem too worried about it, as he knows Williams' injury is not serious. Also, he apparently has a third point guard in his lineup: starting center Andrew Bogut, who he has given a lot of praise to for his ball-handling skills:

“He's the next guy in line that's really equipped to handle the ball and run the team from his position, which is a real nod to his skill level as a ballhandler and as a guy that understands the game.”

Carlisle likely won't use the 7-footer to bring down the ball up the court and run the offense, but it speaks a lot to how much Bogut has impressed him and his coaching staff so far. He was brought in to be an anchor on defense and for his playoff and championship experience, but he has given them much more so far.

The 31-year-old Australian is averaging 3.7 points, 10.8 rebounds, and 1.8 assists in six games this season. He will continue to be relied upon by his coaches and teammates, and he will serve as a vital piece if the Mavs are going to make noise in the Western Conference this season.
