Rick Pitino will not go into that good night without hurling some haymakers first.

After having been effectively fired on Wednesday, only having a job for the semantics of 10 days needing to pass, Rick Pitino released a statement. In it, naturally, he once again claims he knows nothing of what happened within his basketball program and says that he did nothing wrong.

The lack of any and all accountability would normally be shocking here, but this is the same Rick Pitino who claimed ignorance during the hooker scandal from 2013 and also paid a woman to stay silent in regards to an affair he had.

Here is Slick Rick's statement:

Released by Pitino’s lawyers — Steve Pence, Kurt Scharfenberger and Bryan Cassis — that statement implies that this could just be the beginning of this whole ordeal as Pitino could take this to court.

There is roughly over 40 million dollars on the line. That is his buy-out and/or termination without justifcation clause.

Pitino, whose salary is more than $5 million a year, was put on unpaid administrative leave, and the school will quickly name an interim coach. The university's athletic director, Tom Jurich, was put on paid leave.

Those are all just semantics as far as what is happening is concerned. Pitino will be “for real fired” after the 10 days have passed. Jurich still has an outside chance to keep his job, as he's released a statement discussing UL's issues as if he'll be around during the aftermath of this entire debacle.

This story is still developing.
