When we think about Ricky Davis, we usually think about the triple-double incident. However, because of that one mishap, we tend to forget that Davis actually had some pretty decent seasons in the NBA, including playing with rookie LeBron James and putting up solid scoring numbers in his stints in Boston, Cleveland and Minnesota.

Davis, who played his last NBA game in 2010 for the Clippers, is now involved with Ice Cube's Big3 league. He is playing for Ghost Ballers along with prominent NBA players such as Mike Bibby and the former 13th pick in the 2003 Draft, Marcus Banks. Davis is the co-captain of that team while the coach is San Antonio Spurs legend, George Gervin.

Ricky Davis spoke about many things with HoopsHype and, as expected, the first topic was the Big3 league.

“Well, it’s amazing what Ice Cube is doing,” Davis said when asked about the Big3. “Growing up, he’s someone I listened to as an artist and I watched all of his movies. When he called and said that he was putting on a 3-on-3 basketball league, it was kind of surreal. It’s amazing what he’s doing and how he’s put this thing together. I’m glad to be a part of it. You already have guys talking a ton of trash; it’ll be fun.”

However, one topic was maybe not known generally – Davis is attempting to start-up a coaching career.

“Oh yeah,” Davis said when asked about future as a NBA coach. “coaching in the NBA is definitely my dream. I’d love to bring that knowledge back to the NBA, and that’s what I’m working toward now.”

Right now, his coaching “career” is only at an AAU level in Houston, that he is doing alongside his education foundation called the Ricky Davis Legacy Foundation.

As mentioned before, his career was plagued by that triple-double incident, and it is a shame that his whole 12 season career is just remembered for that, especially when we consider he did have a few 20-5-5 seasons, which is quite an impressive feat. It will be interesting to see will Ricky Davis make it as a coach in this league.
