Barrett and Brown have been dating since September 2018, way before Barrett played in the NBA. In fact, Brown and her family were present in the 2019 NBA Draft when the Canadian baller was selected by the Knicks in the 2019 NBA Draft as the third overall pick. Hailey Brown was born in Ancaster, Ontario, Canada. Like Barrett, she is also a Canadian basketball player. Playing the forward position, Brown played for St. Thomas More Catholic Secondary School before transferring to the Rise Center Academy in her senior year. She led St. Thomas More C.S.S to a City Championship in her freshman year. Furthermore, her high school stint also saw her become a three-time Juel League All-Star. Brown was also named to the All-Defensive Team twice.
Furthermore, she also had stints with the Canadian National Team. Brown joined the national team program on 2013 and played in seven different international competitions. Among her highlights with the national team, Brown helped the Canada women’s national team bring home the bronze medal at the 2014 U19 FIBA World Championships.
The 6’1 forward also won silver at the 2013 FIBA U16 World Championships and at the 2016 FIBA U18 Americas. In the 2016 U18 Americas tourney, she averaged 10.0 points and 8.8 rebounds per game.
Brown also helped the squad secure a gold medal in the 2015 FIBA U16 Americas. With solid national team outings under her belt, Brown would eventually be considered a five star prospect by ESPN HoopGurlz. Afterwards, it won’t be long before she commits to taking her talents to University of Michigan.
While taking up her major in communications, Brown averaged 8.4 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 1.2 assists per game in four seasons for the Wolverines. Her best game came against Indiana in her freshman year. Brown registered a career-best 23 points and grabbed eight rebounds in January 10, 2018. She also helped University of Michigan clinch a spot in the NCAA tournament, which was the first time in five years.
Regarded also as a knockdown shooter, she made 143 threes across her four-year college career. Brown was awarded the Unsung Hero Award in her sophomore year. Michigan’s Unsung Hero Award rewarded for “contributions that do not appear in the box score, but are invaluable to the team.” And to wrap up her college basketball career for the University of Michigan, Brown was named to the Academic All-Big Ten. She also became just the 14th player in the University of Michigan’s history books to start 100 games. In addition to this, Brown also ranked 32nd, in terms of most games in the history books with 114 appearances. For Brown, playing basketball for Michigan was certainly a highlight of her life, especially when she led the team to a huge 70-55 upset over no. 13 ranked Tennessee.
In 2021, after the Wolverines clinched a spot in the Sweet 16 for the first time ever, the Canadian baller said “It’s something that I’ll remember forever. I came to Michigan to do these moments from the very first time I stepped on the campus, I had the early conversations with coach. This has just always been one of our goals.”
After a respectable college stint with University of Michigan, Brown didn’t follow through by pursuing a professional basketball career. According to her LinkedIn profile, she graduated with a communications degree. In addition to this, Brown interned for Missing Children Society of Canada as a digital communications coordinator in 2019.
Brown is currently a committee member for Women Uplifting Women. And like her mother and sisters, she’s also an active entrepreneur that operates in the fashion industry. Brown launched Sleek by Hailey, which is a brand that provides high quality hair extensions.
