Despite the firing of former New York Knicks president Phil Jackson, the situation with star forward Carmelo Anthony remains unchanged.

The Knicks would like to move on from the Anthony era but they seem unwilling to unload the swingman in a buyout or in an unfavorable trade.

Anything can happen during free agency, but the Knicks have already declined one trade proposal for Anthony, according to ESPN’s Ian Begley.

The Houston Rockets, who have been looking to unload sharpshooting big man Ryan Anderson, recently offered to swap the two players in a trade that would only need Anthony to waive his no-trade clause.

A trade of this magnitude would form a big 3 in Houston with James Harden, and Anthony's friend Chris Paul. However, the Knicks were unwilling to eat the remaining three years of Anderson's 4-year, $80 million contract.

While it was an opportunity nonetheless, the Knicks were prudent in holding off on taking on a bad deal for the sake of a trade.

If Anthony were to somehow join the Rockets, there would be an awkward dynamic between he and coach Mike D'Antoni, who has a not-so-pleasant history with Melo.

D'antoni claims Anthony issued an ultimatum to the team to choose between the two, which led to him resigning as Knicks head coach.
