Although a trade is still the preferred option for the Houston Rockets and forward Carmelo Anthony, a buyout isn’t off the table, according to Kelly Iko of The Athletic.

Carmelo Anthony has been away from the Rockets since November. The 10-time All-Star only played in 10 games with Houston before the organization decided the Melo experiment was not going to work out.

The Rockets figure to have a hard time finding a trade partner for Carmelo Anthony, so a buyout might be the only way to get him off the roster. Houston is trying to trade him in order to make room for Kenneth Faried, but 10-day contract recipient James Nunnally will likely go instead.

In the 10 games he appeared in with Houston, Melo averaged 13.4 points and 5.4 rebounds while shooting 40.5 percent from the floor, 32.8 percent from beyond the arc and 68.2 percent from the free-throw line.

The last time we saw Carmelo Anthony on an NBA floor was a night to forget for the veteran. Anthony played 20 minutes against his old team — the Oklahoma City Thunder — and finished with two points while shooting a woeful 1-of-11 from the floor.

Anthony has been spotted shooting and training at the gym he's always at in New York. It he is bought out, it's going to be interesting to see what teams have interest in the former All-Star.
