Houston Rockets superstar point guard Chris Paul had quite an evening on Saturday against the Golden State Warriors. Aside from leading his team to a 118-112 victory against the defending champs in a night wherein they had to do without the services of the injured James Harden, it was a very memorable night for Paul for another reason.
His 17-assists performance against the Warriors allowed him to surpass the 9,000-assist mark and serve as a testament that he is indeed one of the greatest floor generals to ever play the game.
Earlier in the season, Paul was quoted as saying that he would never be able to reach the all-time assists record set by Utah Jazz legend John Stockton — something that may have been misconstrued by some. Speaking after Saturday's victory, the 33-year-old Rockets guard set the record straight.
CP3 used occasion of surpassing 9,000 assists, in a gm he had 17, to set the record straight. "People misconstrued what I said last time about John Stockton. His record will never be broken because he was so durable. He played night in night out. It also means I'm getting older."

The controversy rooted from Paul's comments pertaining to the way Stockton's statistics were recorded. Some believed that he was questioning the authenticity of the Jazz man's 15,806 career assists. Well, according to Paul himself, this was definitely not the case, and that he was simply praising the durability of Stockton.
Quite frankly, there's really no point trying to make a bigger deal out of this than it already is. The fact of the matter is that these are two of the greatest point guards of all time. Moreover, Paul did reach a remarkable career milestone here, and he certainly deserves a lot of credit for achieving such an impressive feat.
