To begin the offseason, the Los Angeles Clippers traded Chris Paul to the Houston Rockets. It was a surprising move as Paul was expected to opt out and sign a new deal to stay in Los Angeles.
With Paul joining James Harden in the backcourt, there are questions about how they will coexist considering both players are ball-dominant. According to general manager Daryl Morey, he believes it will lessen Harden's workload on The Woj Pod as transcribed by William Lou of The Score:
“From my perspective, (managing fatigue) was a big motivation with the Chris Paul move,” Rockets general manager Daryl Morey said on ESPN's The Woj Pod.
“It's just too much to ask one guy to carry a team all the way to the Western Conference Finals or the Finals. It caught up to him.”
In head coach Mike D'Antoni's first season with the Rockets, Harden became the team's point guard. While Harden averaged a near triple-double during the regular season, it was clear he was fatigued in the playoffs.
With essentially two point guards, it will be interesting to see if Harden and Paul can play off the ball. Along with the two All-Stars, the Rockets are trying to form a trio by acquiring Carmelo Anthony. However, the New York Knicks are reportedly not interested in Ryan Anderson's remaining three-year, $60 million contract.
