Houston Rockets big man Clint Capela had a rather underwhelming performance during his team's Game 4 loss to the Utah Jazz on Monday night, as he finished with just four points and seven rebounds while making just one of his six shots.
Well, there seems to be a reason for that.
Capela is battling not one, but two respiratory illnesses and is finding it very difficult to function:
“It's tough, man,” Capela said after the defeat, according to Tim MacMahon of ESPN.com. “Especially when I try to breathe, it's hard. I'm just going to fight it the best that I can.”
The 24-year-old said that on Sunday, he was diagnosed with both adenovirus and a klebsiella infection. He missed a practice before the series began because he was sick, but the illnesses have appeared to have gotten worse.
Capela added that it would be another four to five days before he fully recovers.
He didn't show many ill effects from the sickness over the first three games of this first-round Western Conference playoff series, as he averaged 11.3 points and 12.0 rebounds per game as the Rockets jumped out to a 3-0 lead.
However, it was clear that Capela, whose eyes were bloodshot after the game, was not himself on Monday night.
Houston put forth its most anemic offensive performance in the series during the loss, scoring just 91 points in a 16-point defeat. Prior to Game 4, the Rockets had posted 122, 118 and 104 points, respectively.
James Harden and Co. will get another chance to close the Jazz out when they host Utah in Game 5 on Wednesday evening.
