With Monday being the last day for teams to offer some of their players contract extensions, the Houston Rockets have made a decision on the future of their promising young big man, Clint Capela.

Capela will be headed to restricted free agency next summer, with the team having the right to match any offer given to him, in order to retain his services.

However, the 23-year-old does not seem too bothered about the development in his contract situation, as he made it known, via Jonathan Feigen of the Houston Chronicle, that he is only focused on playing well this season. He added that he is healthy, and looking to build on his strong showing last year.

“Honestly, my agent handles that,” Capela said. “If I sign, that's good. But it won't matter. If I have to wait until next year, it won't bother me. I'm here. I'm healthy. I'm playing. That's all that matters.”

Clint Capela is coming off his best season as a pro, with averages of 12.4 points, on 64 percent shooting, 7.9 rebounds, and 1.2 blocks in 23.6 minutes per game. He appeared in 57 games for the Rockets last year, and has emerged as their undisputed starting center.

After his surprising selection as the 25th overall pick in the 2014 draft, the Swiss international has slowly established himself as one of the better young centers in the NBA today, and has been holding his own inside the paint for his team.

If Clint Capela can surpass his impressive showing from a year ago, he could generate a lot of interest from teams around the league, especially those who are looking to add a young prospect with a ton of potential. He has the chance to secure a lucrative contract, which will set his future, and also allow him to be an indispensable part of whichever team he’ll next play for, whether it will still be the Rockets or not.
