Houston Rockets big man Clint Capela will be suiting up for the Swiss national team this summer, according to an official report from Alykhan Bijani of The Athletic.

Capela, a native of Geneva, will reportedly play in pre-qualifying games against Portugal and Iceland ahead of FIBA EuroBasket 2021:

“I am delighted to come back to the Swiss team, a country that is dear to my heart,” Capela said. “Swiss Basketball has made tremendous progress in all areas in recent years, and I must say, the return to the national team fills me up with joy. I thank the President for his confidence.”

Capela has improved his level of play with each passing season in the NBA. The former 25th overall pick made 67 appearances with the Rockets last season, racking up averages of 16.6 points on 64.8 percent shooting from the field, 12.7 rebounds, 1.4 assists and 1.5 blocks in 33.6 minutes per outing:

“I'm thrilled with Clint's return to the Swiss team,” Swiss Basketball Federation President Giancarlo Sergi told FIBA. “He's an extraordinary and very intelligent player.

“At the Federation, we get up at night, me being the first one, to see him play. This time around, we will see him up close on the Swiss hardwood. I thank Clint and his entourage.”

Although the Swiss have previously competed in the European Championship (1951, 1953 and 1955), they'll be looking to make it to the FIBA EuroBasket for the first time in the modern era.
