Rockets news: Houston personnel think Carmelo Anthony is on his way out

Carmelo Anthony of the Houston Rockets may be on his way out of the team, based on the common belief among Houston's players and coaches.

As reported by Tim MacMahon of ESPN:

Sources: Rockets players and coaches believe that Carmelo Anthony has played his final game for the franchise.

Carmelo Anthony did not play in the Rockets' 115-103 win over the Indiana Pacers. He was listed as “out” due to an undisclosed illness.

Earlier, according to various rumors and reports, the Rockets were considering on waiving Anthony, who's currently under a one-year minimum contract worth $2.4 million. However, Rockets general manager Daryl Morey tagged such speculations as unfair. Per Tim MacMahon and Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, Morey believes that Anthony has been doing great so far.

“One of the reasons I'm here, besides it's 10 games in, about, is I think there's just a lot of unfair, like, rumors and everything going around about him,” Morey said before Sunday's game against the Indiana Pacers. “He's been great with us. As Coach [Mike D'Antoni] said yesterday, his approach has been great. He's accepted every role Coach has given him — starting, off the bench, whatever it's been.

Amid Morey's defense of Carmelo Anthony, reports continued to pop out, suggesting that the 10-time All-Star's stint with the Rockets will end soon.

Carmelo Anthony has taken on a bench role — a role that he wasn't open on taking in his previous teams. Through 10 games, he has logged in 13.4 points on 40.5 percent shooting.

The Rockets — last year's best regular season team — are off to a slow start. They are now 5-7 and are looking to recalibrate their team in an effort to rack up wins.
