Houston Rockets general manager Daryl Morey has been sporting a beard as of late, and that change in his looks is of no coincidence. Morey said he plans to keep growing his new beard until reigning MVP James Harden ends his streak of scoring 30 or more points in a game.

Harden has scored 30 or more points for nearly two months now, starting with a 50-point bomb against the Los Angeles Lakers on Dec. 13, a streak that has now built to 28 consecutive outings after dropping 36 points in a 127-101 win over the Sacramento Kings on Wednesday.

The Beard could keep this streak going for a while, even potentially until the end of the season, having very few scares to miss out on his streak besides a 136-122 loss to the Denver Nuggets that saw him score 30 points on 9-of-21 shooting from the floor.

Harden will only get the ball more in the playoffs within a shortened rotation and could score 30 or more until the Rockets are eliminated or win it all.

How far is Morey willing to go in this hockey-like attempt to honor his best player? Would he shave and grow another if Harden extends his streak past this season, or will he wear it proudly during each day of the offseason until it comes to an end?

Is Morey setting himself up to be the NBA's next Gandalf by taking on this on?

The fate of his beard rests in The Beard's hands. Literally.
