Houston Rockets general manager Daryl Morey was encouraged by the signing of his newest star, Carmelo Anthony, who recently bonded with his new teammates in a trip to the Bahamas.

“Any time you can add a Hall of Famer and a top USA Basketball member, it's a good day,” said Morey. “He's a highly-skilled player that we think in our system, with the players we have, will be more optimal than we've recently seen in recent past.”

The Rockets are banking on Melo having a much different trajectory than he did with Oklahoma City, despite boasting a combo of two All-Stars in the mix, much like Russell Westbrook and Paul George.

The hope is that Anthony's longtime friendship with floor general Chris Paul will play out differently than with an all-around dynamo in Westbrook, who was coming off an MVP season in which his usage rate went through the roof.

Melo will be used similarly, as a spot-up shooter that can complement James Harden's and Paul's playmaking ability, but it's yet to be seen whether he will start or come off the bench, as head coach Mike D'Antoni recently said he would get the opportunity to fight for a starting spot in training camp — a chance he surely won't pass up.
